Signalman Course (SM)


Stated in the Factories Act* (Chapter 104) for Operations of Crane Regulations 1998, Clause 19(2), in order for any personnel to be appointed as Signalman, they are required to undergo training courses approved by the Chief Inspector from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).  Only those who have successfully completed are allowed to be appointed as a Signalman.

* The existing Factories Act was repealed and replaced by the New Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSHA) with effect from 1st March 2006.

For Whom
Those workers involved in the lifting operations are advised to attend the course; they will find this course beneficial to them in view of safety aspect.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants would be  competently trained to be a Signalman.  Gaining the necessary safety knowledge and skills to perform as a signalman for all lifting operations.

Course Contents
50% of the course focuses on the practical aspect of signaling and the remaining 50% of which will be classroom lectures, teaching them the legal requirements, roles and duties as a Signalman.

Certificate of Sucessful Completion will be issued to the participants with more than 75% attendance and has successfully completed the course and passed the examinations.

Entry Requirements
At least 18 years of age
Singaporeans, Permanent Residents or Holders of valid employment pass / work permit
Able to read and understand simple English
Must be physically and mentally fit for the training with no handicap

Note :
Those 60 years and above must produce a medical certificate of physical fitness

Compulsory Course
This is the compulsory training course for the appointed Rigger to work in the Singapore work site.

Special Classes
In addition to the scheduled course dates, organisations who nominate 10 or more participants, can request for special classes to suit their working schedule. 

SDF Grant
For eligibility, trainees must be company sponsored and are either Citizens or PR of Singapore.
