SIGNALMAN COURSE - Signaling for Lifting Operation (SM)

Introduction

As stated in the Workplace Safety and Health (Operation of Cranes) Regulations 2011,

“No person shall be appointed as a Signalman unless he has successfully completed a training course acceptable to the Commissioner”.

“A Signalman who is appointed...shall be attired in such a way as would distinctively identify him as a Signalman”


For Whom
It is a mandatory course for individuals who are assigned as Signalman in the workplace.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants would be competently trained to be a Signalman. Being equipped with the necessary safety knowledge and skills, the participants would be able to give correct and clear signals to guide the crane operator in the manoeuvre of a load safely to its destination.


Course Contents
50% of the course focuses on the practical aspect of signaling and the remaining 50% of which will be classroom lectures, teaching them the legal requirements, roles and duties as a Signalman.

Assessment (Written and Practical)


Certification
Certificate of Successful Completion will be issued to the participants with more than 75% attendance and has successfully completed the course and passed the examinations.


Entry Requirements
At least 18 years of age
Singaporeans, Permanent Residents or Holders of valid employment pass / work permit
Must be physically and mentally fit for the training with no handicap

Note :
*Those 60 years and above must produce a medical certificate of physical fitness

Assumed Skills & Knowledge
Workplace Literacy and Numberacy Level 2 under Employability Skills System (ESS) or equivalent
At least 6 months of relevant industrial experience at time of application

Note :
* Proof of highest education certificate is recommended


Compulsory Course
This is the compulsory training course for the appointed Signalman to work in the Singapore work site.


Special Classes
In addition to the scheduled course dates, organisations who nominate 10 or more participants, can request for special classes to suit their working schedule.


SDF Grant
For eligibility, trainees must be company sponsored and are either Citizens or PR of Singapore.
They are to submit the application directly to SDF. Please visit www.skillsconnect.gov.sg. The application will be subjected to SDF requirements and consideration.
