This WSQ OLC course is suitable for aspiring and experienced individuals who are required to operate a lorry crane in lifting operations.
OVERVIEW
The Generic Manufacturing Skills (GMS) WSQ framework aims to raise the professionalism of the manufacturing industry by equipping the workforce with essential generic and portable skills to adapt and be resilient to challenges in the dynamic working environment. It allows employers to access a pipeline of skilled workforce, which provides a competitive Advantage and enables organisation success. It also equips workers with cross-cutting generic manufacturing skills to effectively contribute and progress within an organisation as well as promote mobility across manufacturing companies.

OBJECTIVE
By the end of the course, learners should be competently trained with the knowledge and application skills in carrying out lorry crane operations to meet WSH legislative requirements.
THEORY & PRACTICAL
“Operate Lorry Crane” is a Competency Unit (CU) under the Logistics Competency Category. The Competency Elements (CE) covered are:
- CE1 : Conduct Routine Checks
- CE2 : Plan for Lifting Operations
- CE3 : Set Up Crane
- CE4 : Lift and Transfer Load
- CE5 : Shut Down and Secure Crane

COURSE ASSESSMENT
Competency-based Assessment for both Theory and Practical will be conducted at the end of the lessons.
Learners who fail to attain the required assessment criteria will be deemed as Not Yet Competent (NYC) and he/she will have to register for the course for a re-assessment.
CERTIFICATION
Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded under the Singapore Workforce Qualifications (WSQ) Framework to the learners upon completion of the course.
For learners who passed the theory and practical tests, THT Academy Pte Ltd will issue a course pass with a validity period of 5 years from the assessment date.

Frequently asked questions
Do lorry crane operators need to be certified?
Yes. Since 1 September 2013, MOM has required all lorry crane operators to be certified under a lorry crane operator training course. MOM lists WSQ Operate Lorry Crane for employees who operate a lorry loader or lorry crane.
How long is the certificate valid?
Learners who pass the theory and practical tests receive a WSQ Statement of Attainment, and THT Academy issues a course pass valid for 5 years from the assessment date.
Do lorry crane operators need a medical examination?
MOM states that lorry crane operators are not required to go for mandatory medical examinations under the WSH (Operation of Cranes) Regulations, but strongly encourages periodic medical checks.
How long is the course, and what does it cost?
2 days (18 hours) at THT Academy, Woodlands Spectrum 1, 2 Woodlands Sector 1, #01-03, Singapore 738068. The fee is $700 + GST per learner before funding, including test fees. Yes. The WSQ Operate Lorry Crane (Experienced) Assessment Only Pathway lets experienced operators take the written and practical tests without attending the full course.
